We had such an amazing experience staying here! The kids loved the fun of wearing kimonos, and my nephew enjoyed our private hot bath. The decor was lovely, and the owners were friendly. Plus, the breakfast was good!
For dads, it would be great having more family-friendly activities.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Ryokan Shimizu. The location was perfect, bike rental was so useful to go out and explore Kyoto, but most of all the staff were so friendly and offered free Japanese culture experiences where we tried on traditional Japanese outfits, did some Japanese calligraphy and had a quick language lesson!

Very friendly and helpful staff, all with good English. They were keen to share local tips (ie. a One-day market that was on). On-site bike rental was also a great way to see the local sights.
Bathrooms were clean and functional but very cramped by western standards!

The staff and service was excellent. Very interesting neighbourhood. Plenty of room, bathroom excellent for a Westener.
A bit hot with a duvet without turning the air con down to 18. Had to just use the sheet top.

I had the a double room which was big and functional with private bathroom inside. The location was great, just a pleasant stroll away from a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple...
Can honestly say there wasn't anything not to like.

Very nice experience with cute staff
I stayed for one night in a Double Room with Private Bathroom and loved every moment! The breakfast was lavish, with traditional Japanese dishes that left me full and satisfied. The staff were helpful, providing maps and personal recommendations for nearby attractions. It was also great to unwind in the private onsen after exploring the city. The only downside was that I wished I could have stayed longer!

Very attentive staff, clean rooms.
Traditional and delicious breakfast, incredible location on tourist attractions. Close enough to temples to see, sightseeing and walking up-and-down the mountains that surround Kyoto, and Tokyo central station.
